MCCI lambasts hike in electricity tariff

Rejecting the hike in electricity tariff by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on the insistence of power distribution companies, the business community of southern Punjab asked authorities on Sunday to reduce electricity and gas tariff particularly for Punjab-based industries.

Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) President Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi criticised Nepra for increasing average electricity tariff by 48 paisa per unit and resultantly, burdening consumers with an additional Rs24.32 billion in payments.
