Key power sector trends from 2017 and expectations in the new year

The world is faced with serious concerns on climate change. India, being a responsible stakeholder, has taken steps towards decarbonising its economy. It has set very aggressive targets to augment its renewable generation capacity to 175 GW by 2022 and has, in fact, upped the target recently on the back of increasing environmental and climate change concerns. Consequently, recent years in general and 2017 in particular have witnessed much euphoria in investments in the renewable space. These were skewed more towards solar owing to the greater impetus provided by the Government of India as also reducing cost of solar panels.
