Hong Kong power supplier CLP plans to expand in India

Hong Kong-based regional electricity provider CLP Holdings is looking for acquisition opportunities to branch out further into India’s energy supply chain, as the company eyes rapid economic development there and a consequent increase in electricity demand.

While electricity distribution assets in India are mostly government-owned, transmission businesses have been opened up to private investments, said Richard Lancaster, chief executive of CLP at a Monday press conference for the company’s 2017 financial results. “We are actively exploring some of those opportunities,” he said.
