48,000 smart electricity meters installed in Sharjah

The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has recently completed installation of 48,000 smart meters in various parts of Sharjah.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dr Rashid Al Leem, chairman of Sewa, said that the authority is replacing 400 to 600 meters every day at industrial and residential areas.

He said that the strategy of 2020 includes smart transformation of the networks and smart meters to provide services to more than 450,000 consumers and linking them to the system of remote reading in order to provide better service and accurate reading for calculating the bills and reduce losses.
