Technical issues bedevil operation of three new LNG power plants

ISLAMABAD: A pledge by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to end electricity outages ahead of general elections is being undermined by the possibility of further delays in new power plants that run on General Electric’s (GE) flagship gas turbines.

The state-owned gas company Pakistan LNG has been diverting liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments earmarked for three plants. The power plants would not be at full capacity in time for the elections, likely to be held in July, trade and government sources said.
